Sales of the top 500 South Korean companies fell in 2015 from a year earlier but their net profits increased.
According to business data provider CEO Score Wednesday, the 500 largest companies in South Korea in terms of sales posted two-thousand-468 trillion won in total sales last year, down by two-point-three percent from the year before.
It marked a drop for the second year in a row, following a four-point-four percent on-year fall in 2014.
Six out of the top ten companies saw their sales decline while 22 among the 50 top companies posted a negative sales growth.
However, operating profits of the top 500 companies totaled 142-point-seven trillion won last year, jumping 13-point-six percent from 2014. Their combined net profit also rose by ten-point-eight percent to 96-point-seven trillion won.
Energy, information and technology, electric and electronics companies, which are major exporters, fell out of the top 500 list, while brokerage, food and beverage companies and service providers, which are largely dependent on domestic markets, newly joined the list.
