South Korean consumers will file a class action suit against Nissan Motor Corporation for forging emissions tests results.
According to South Korean industry sources on Tuesday, lawyers from Barun Law will represent owners of Nissan’s sports-utility vehicle(SUV) Qashqai in a suit, asking Nissan Korea and domestic car dealerships to cough up illegal profits.
The suit will be the second of its kind against a foreign carmaker in South Korea, following one against Germany's Volkswagen last year.
The move comes after the Ministry of Environment on Monday said Nissan officials appeared to have fabricated the emissions test results of the SUV in tests conducted from last December to April this year.
Ministry officials explained that exhaust gas recirculation parts in the model’s engine stopped in tests conducted indoors and outdoors that pointed to a manipulation of the emissions reduction device.
Nissan Motor Company designed the Qashqai, a model using Renault’s one-point-six liter engine and imported and distributed by Nissan Korea.
From November last year to last Wednesday, 814 models of the SUV were sold in South Korea.
