Hyundai Motor Files Patent for Folding Cars in US

It has been belatedly made known that Hyundai Motor Group filed a patent to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on foldable cars.

According to documents revealed by Hyundai Motor and the U.S. patent office in January, the South Korean automaker filed a patent in 2014 on cars that would have the capability to fold their windshields and rear cabins inward.

The proposed model’s key feature is its ability to allow drivers to park more cars in enclosed areas using the folding mechanisms, allowing the vehicles to become smaller in height and length.

Hyundai Motor claims past foldable vehicles lacked the ability to shorten their length and that their roofs and back windows were unable to fold inside, forcing the cars to take up more space.

The carmaker added that a vehicle able to fold its roof and backside, thereby minimizing the car’s length, was needed.
