S. Korea Strengthens Economic Cooperation with EBRD, Turkey

The government plans to facilitate the overseas advancement by South Korean workers and companies via the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development(EBRD).

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said Wednesday that First Vice Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok met EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti in London ahead of the EBRD 2016 Annual Meeting and Business Forum in the British capital and discussed economic cooperation measures between South Korea and the European bank.

During the meeting, Choi and Chakrabarti agreed to push for triangular cooperation among South Korea, EBRD and a recipient country of EBRD-led projects, such as Turkey and Georgia.

In addition, South Korean institutions will be encouraged to participate in EBRD’s investment projects while the Seoul government will strengthen cooperation with EBRD through cofinancing.

Choi also sought Chakrabarti’s active interest and assistance in expanding the presence of South Korean workers at EBRD, to which Chakrabarti responded positively.

Later, Choi also met with Turkey’s Undersecretary of Treasury Cavit Dagdas in London and agreed to strengthen economic cooperation between South Korea and Turkey in the sectors of medical services, energy and manufacturing.
