S. Korean Brokerages Mark Offshore Profits

South Korean brokerages recorded profits at its overseas branches for the second straight year.

The Financial Supervisory Service(FSS) reported that local brokerages earned 23-point-nine million dollars in net profit last year. The amount is seven-point-two million dollars more than what they raked in abroad a year earlier.

South Korean brokerages earned 16-point-seven million dollars in net profit in 2014, marking the first time the firms avoided losses since they expanded business overseas in 2009. 

Branches in seven regions including Hong Kong, Brazil and Vietnam marked profits, but those in five countries including Singapore, the U.S. and Thailand recorded losses.

As of late last year, 19 South Korean brokerages are operating 75 branches in 12 foreign countries.
