N. Korea Airs Special Program to Mark 7th Party Congress

North Korea’s Korean Central Television began airing a special program from 8:30 a.m. Friday to mark the opening of the seventh congress of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea.

A female presenter appeared on the program and said that the significant day of the opening of congress had come, describing it as a glorious gathering of winners.

The presenter said that this congress is the largest political commemoration in the ruling party’s history. She then expressed gratitude to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for opening the congress.

The presenter said that great leaders had revitalized the party by holding a congress at each turning point in history.

The presenter added that the proud victory witnessed by the party is the result of Kim Jong-un’s leadership that centered on realizing the grand intentions of past leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il.

North Koreans are said to be watching the program at designated venues, as ordered by state officials.
