A North Korean propaganda outlet says that South Korea has proposed holding a friendly football match between workers from the two Koreas.
According to North Korea’s propaganda Web site “Uriminjok-kkiri” on Tuesday, the South Korean Committee for Implementing the June 15th Joint Declaration suggested holding the inter-Korean match in Seoul on August 15th, the anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese occupation.
The Web site added that the South Korean committee pledged to make the inter-Korean football event happen as this year marks the 16th anniversary of the June 15th Joint Declaration.
A Unification Ministry official said that the government would review the invitation once it is received but that the idea of holding a sporting event seems improper given the current inter-Korean situation.
