Report: The United Nations Security Council(UNSC) is soon expected to issue a press statement to condemn North Korea for its attempts on Thursday to test-fire ballistic missiles.

Requested by the U.S., the Security Council members met on Thursday for informal consultations following the North's firing of two intermediate-range ballistic Musudan missiles.

During the one-hour meeting at the UN headquarters, UNSC members agreed to adopt a press statement, regarding which the Chinese delegation asked for time to consult with Beijing.

While proposing to discuss North Korea's missile tests, the U.S. noted that the North Korean launch attempts are in violation of UN resolutions dating to 2006 despite resulting in failure. A total of five UNSC resolutions prohibit North Korea from conducting ballistic missile tests.

The council has warned the North through press statements five times this year, denouncing its attempted launch of a Musudan missile on April 15th and its firing of a submarine-launched ballistic missile(SLBM) last Friday.

The council’s consultations also come after UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric urged Pyongyang to halt provocations at a press brief on Thursday.
