'N. Korea Set up Target Practice Model of S. Korean Top Office'

The South Korean military says that North Korea is preparing for a large-scale artillery drill at its training site.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) said on Wednesday that an image captured by the South’s Arirang satellite showed about 30 artillery pieces gathered at the Daewon-ri training site near Pyongyang, along with a half-sized model of Cheong Wa Dae, South Korea's presidential office.

A JCS official said that the North is likely to conduct an artillery exercise using the model in the near future.

The official said that with the planned exercise, the North seems intent on instilling hostility among North Koreans towards South Korea to increase internal unity ahead of the party congress set for May sixth. The official said the move is also intended to cause fear and anxiety in South Korean society and raise tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
