'N. Korea Deploys 300 New MLRS on Front line Units'

North Korea has reportedly deployed some 300 additional new multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) north of the Military Demarcation Line that separates the two Koreas.

Multiple sources in the South Korean government said on Sunday that the North Korean military has been deploying about 300 122-millimeter rocket launchers along its front line units since 2014.

The new launchers, with a range of 40 kilometers, are known to have 30 to 40 barrels per unit and can hit Seoul and the surrounding areas.

If the North fired off 30-barrel launchers all at once, it could send about nine-thousand rockets into South Korea.

The latest rockets have twice the range than those used to attack Yeonpyeong Island in November 2010.

Military experts say that it is more pressing to secure a means to neutralize the North’s MLRS deployed on the border area rather than deploying the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense on the Korean Peninsula.
