South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor has agreed to cooperate with the U.S.-based networking giant Cisco Systems on the development of key technologies for connected cars.
Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun and Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins finalized the deal on Tuesday in Seoul to develop in-vehicle network technology, which controls data transmission inside a car.
A connected car is one that is equipped with Internet access, usually on a wireless local area network. This allows the car to share Internet access with other devices both inside and outside of the vehicle.
A low-capacity, low-speed network is applied to conventional vehicles with few data to control, whereas Internet-connected cars require a high-speed in-vehicle network due to the volume of transmitted data and the number of devices controlled by the network.
