South Korean civic groups on North Korea’s human rights are moving to establish an international solidarity organization to promote the freedom of information in the North.
Kang Shin-sam, the chief of Seoul-based Open Radio for North Korea, told KBS on Tuesday that South Korean civic groups will hold a related international conference on May fourth and set up a working group to prepare for the launch of a global solidarity group around October.
The proposed organization is expected to involve seven to eight domestic and foreign organizations, including several South Korean civic groups.
The planned international organization plans to monitor how North Koreans have access to information from the outside world and issue annual reports. It may present the reports to international organizations such as the United Nations.
In the May fourth conference, representatives of media organizations across the world and human rights groups and media experts will discuss information control in the communist country.
