BOK Keeps Benchmark Rate at 1.5% for 10 Months

The Bank of Korea(BOK) has frozen the nation’s key interest rate at one-point-five percent for the tenth consecutive month.

In its monthly monetary policy meeting Tuesday morning, the BOK decided to keep the rate unchanged for April.

The BOK had lowered the rate four times between August 2014 and June last year by a total of one percentage point but left it steady ever since.

It appears that the central bank has frozen the rate in order to maintain financial stability, as a further cut is expected to only generate negative effects.

BOK Governor Lee Ju-yeol said that the central bank is adopting monetary policies with caution, as it is necessary to leave breathing room for future policy maneuvers amid continuing external uncertainties.
