A virtual anatomy system developed by a U.S.-based Korean engineer is drawing attention as an effective education tool for medical students.
The Anatomage Table, an anatomy visualization system for anatomy education, has been adopted by around 500 medical schools around the world, including the one at Korea University in Seoul.
The system began to be known to a wide public in February of 2012, when its developer Choi Won-cheol, or Jack Choi, introduced it during a TED Talks conference in the U.S.
Choi studied mechanical engineering at Seoul National University before going to the U.S., where he earned master's and doctoral degrees at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2004, he founded the company, Anatomage, in the U.S. and has been at the forefront in distributing the 3-D medical technology.
The system can be updated on a regular basis and makes use of big data in addition to virtual reality.
