Seoul Issues Warning over Pyongyang's Threats Against President Park

Seoul issued a stern warning to Pyongyang on Friday after the regime criticized and threatened President Park Geun-hye using harsh and coarse words a day earlier.

The Unification Ministry's Deputy Spokesperson Park Soo-jin made the warning in a regular media briefing, calling on North Korea to immediately stop making reckless threats and vulgar expressions against the South Korean president.

Park also criticized North Korea for its nuclear and missile programs, saying they are grave provocations threatening world peace. She noted the regime should realize that the programs cannot guarantee its survival and urged the North to come to a path of change.

The spokesperson also said the South Korean government will do its utmost to persuade the North to give up its nuclear and missiles programs through effective sanctions in coordination with the international community.

In a spokesman’s statement Thursday, the North’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland criticized President Park’s diplomatic policies regarding the North’s nuclear issues, including her participation in the recent Nuclear Security Summit in Washington.

The committee referred to the president as a wicked traitor of the Korean people and a witch of the era, with the claim that killing her is a widely shared public wish in the South.
