N. Korea Announces Test Launch of New Interceptor Guided Missile

North Korea said Saturday that it conducted a test launch to affirm the combat performance level of its new ground-to-air guided weapon system.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected a test-fire of the new weapon system, and the ground-to-air interceptor missile accurately hit and destroyed a target object in the air.

The news agency claimed that through the testing, the North has proved that the combat performance of this new anti-air interceptor guided weapon system has fully reached technological requirements in the latest military science. The report said the weapon system was developed through domestic technology.

Rodong Sinmun, the newspaper of the North's ruling Workers' Party, also put out ten photos showing the launch of the guided weapon and Kim Jong-un's attendance there.

The latest ground-to-air weapon the North fired is believed to be the KN-06 missile with a range of 100 to 150 kilometers.
