Defectors' Group Sends Leaflets Toward N. Korea

A South Korean civic group composed of North Korean defectors says it sent 200-thousand propaganda leaflets toward North Korea on Friday at a site in Ganghwa County near the inter-Korean border.

Fighters for a Free North Korea said the leaflets were flown across the border toward the North in ten large balloons from an elementary school in Ganghwa. The group said the balloons carried two-thousand one U.S. dollar bills, 500 USB flash drives and DVDs as well as 200 booklets.

The group said last month that it would send ten-million leaflets condemning the North's latest nuclear test and demanding the dismantlement of its nuclear weapons programs over a three-month period to mark the sixth anniversary of the North's sinking of the South's Navy corvette Cheonan on March 26th.

The defectors' group also sent 100-thousand propaganda leaflets across the inter-Korean border on March 28th in Paju City.
