110 S. Korean Planes or Ships Affected by N. Korea's Jamming Signals

The government says an estimated total of 110 South Korean planes and ships were affected by the satellite disruption signals sent by North Korea on Thursday.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said that 58 planes and 52 ships reported jamming by the signals designed to disrupt Global Positioning System(GPS) devices as of 7 a.m. on Friday.

The planes and ships, however, did not report any major damage as they had other navigation systems or alternative devices.

The ministry said some mobile phone base stations in the South also came within the range of the jamming signals from the North. However, disruptions such as poor quality of phone calls were avoided thanks to antijamming devices.
