Recent data has shown that more than 40 percent of jobs in South Korea are in the capital, Seoul and more than 70 percent of jobs are in the greater Seoul metropolitan area.
Job-listing Web site JobKorea analyzed more than six-point-five million job opening notices on its site in the last year.
The analysis showed that nearly 41 percent of the posted jobs were in Seoul. Gyeonggi Province, the administrative area surrounding the capital, came in second with 24-point-seven percent of the listings. Incheon, the port city just west of Seoul, had seven-point-seven percent of new postings.
The tallies indicate that 73-point-three percent of new work positions were located in Seoul and its greater metropolitan region.
Fourth on the list was the port city of Busan with five-point-four percent of new job listings, while Daegu came in fifth with three-point-two percent of new jobs.
South Jeolla Province, Gangwon Province and Jeju Island each had less than one percent of new job posts.
The types of new jobs offered also differed regionally. Jobs in tourist destinations such as Jeju Island and Gangwon Province had many job offers related to the airline, hotel and travel industries.
New jobs in Ulsan, North and South Gyeongsang Provinces were mostly in the auto, steel and shipbuilding sectors, while jobs in Gwangju, South Jeolla Province, Daejeon and Daegu were mostly in the banking, insurance and credit card sectors.
