The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea(AMCHAM) announced on Wednesday that its “doorknock” delegation wrapped up consultations with key U.S. officials.
The chamber said that the six-member delegation met with senior government officials and lawmakers some 35 times between Monday and Thursday last week.
For every year since 1985, AMCHAM has sent a delegation for "doorknock" visits to key cities in the U.S. to meet with senior government officials and lawmakers and discuss issues that affect American companies operating in South Korea.
The chamber said that the delegation explained South Korea’s key economic policies and also exchanged views on the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Among those whom the delegation met with are House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan. Delegation members also met with lawmakers of the Senate committees on foreign relations and finance as well as the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The delegation said that the U.S. Congress showed a keen interest in South Korea but held incorrect perceptions about the status of implementing the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement and regarding Seoul-Washington ties.
The delegation added that it informed U.S. officials on Seoul’s determination toward labor reforms and increasing trade.
