The deepest part of the ocean in South Korea is located north of Ulleung Island in the East Sea. The depth of ‘U-san-hae-gok’ was measured at two-thousand-985 meters.

The Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency(KHOA) said on Monday that it studied average sea levels and depth by measuring sea level changes at 389 coastal areas including Incheon, Mokpo, Busan and Sokcho for the past three years.

The height of a mountain refers to the distance from average sea level to the peak. The average sea level off Incheon is the reference point in South Korea.

The agency is providing data on the average sea levels at 389 locations nationwide on its web Site.
