Study: S. Korea Ranks 5th in Agricultural Science & Technology

A recent study finds that South Korea’s agricultural science and technology level stands at some 83 percent of that of the U.S.

According to the evaluation carried out by the Rural Development Administration last year, the technological gap in the field between South Korea and the U.S. was five-point-two years.

The study found that South Korea ranked fifth after the U.S., the European Union, Japan and Canada in terms of agricultural science and technology.

The study looked at 36 technological levels in seven areas, including biotechnology, in ten countries.

South Korea’s level in safely producing high-quality agro-livestock products stood at 90-and-a-half percent of the U.S.’s. In particular, South Korea ranked first in terms of its ginseng producing technique.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s gauge regarding urban agriculture and so-called agro-healing technology stood at the 60 percent range of the U.S.’s level.

The results are derived from evaluations by the Rural Development Administration conducted every five years in line with the nation’s basic law on science and technology. It first began the study in 2005.
