The South Korean grandmaster of the board game Go has lost to artificial intelligence in a historic five-match human versus machine challenge.
In the third match held in Seoul Saturday, Google's artificial intelligence Go-playing computer program AlphaGo again defeated Lee Se-dol, the nine-dan player of the ancient board game.
AlphaGo won by resignation as Lee gave up the game after the 176th move.
The 33-year-old Lee has suffered three straight losses with AlphaGo clinching victory with three wins in the five-round competition.
The supercomputer challenger developed by Google DeepMind will receive one-million U.S. dollars in prize money.
AlphaGo's developer will donate the money to UNICEF and other charity groups related to the game of Go or the four educational disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The two remaining matches will be held Sunday and Tuesday.
