Nari Basin on Ulleung Island to be Breeding Ground for Queen Bees

The Nari Basin on Ulleung Island in the East Sea will be the nation’s largest breeding ground for honey bee queens.

North Gyeonsang Province Agricultural Research and Extension Services on Wednesday signed an agreement with Yecheon County and Ulleung County to set up a breeding facility for mass production of high-quality honey bee queens.

The facility will be created at a ten-thousand square meter site in the Nari Basin with the pristine nature.

The facility is unlikely to produce mixed breed and easy to preserve purebred as the island is surrounded by sea and the number of bee species in the island is small.
