S. Korea, US Agree on Draft Accord on Space Cooperation

South Korea and the United States have agreed on a draft accord on peacefully using space-related technology.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said that the two sides agreed Monday on the draft of the deal that provides a legal and institutional basis for bilateral cooperation in space science, earth observation and space exploration.

The ministry said it will seek to have the deal signed within days via consultations with the U.S.

During the ten-year term of the agreement, South Korea and the U.S. plan to work closely on manned missions, rocket science, space communication and spaceship development.

The ministry said that the accord is expected to help South Korea achieve its aim to carry out an unmanned lunar exploration mission by 2020 and secure its own capacity for space development.
