AP: Tensions Rising on DMZ

The Associated Press says that tensions have significantly increased along the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) since North Korea’s recent nuclear test and rocket launch.

Chief of AP’s Pyongyang bureau, Eric Talmadge, visited the North’s side of the DMZ and the truce village of Panmunjeom on Monday to interview North Korean soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel Nam Dong-ho of the North Korean People’s Army said during the interview that visitors to the DMZ area think it’s like a resort, but clashes could happen at any time.

Nam reportedly said that South Korea’s anti-Pyongyang broadcasts can only be heard late at night, and that the North Korean people and army are enraged by the South’s shutdown of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
