Unification Minister Vows Support for Gaeseong Firms

South Korea’s Unification Minister Hong Yong-pyo has vowed to help South Korean firms hit by the closure of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex normalize their businesses.

The minister made the promise on Monday during his visit to the headquarters of two firms in Incheon, which operated factories in the Gaeseong park.

In the meeting with the executives of the firms, Hong expressed gratitude to the firms for understanding of the government’s decision to shut down the inter-Korean complex.

He said that the government made the decision in the interest of national security, stressing the entire nation should unite to overcome the crisis.

The firms are said to be suffering from the abrupt shutdown as they are having trouble with production since the North prevented them from removing any manufacturing equipment from the complex.
