Local Currency Marks Weakest Level in Over 5 Years

On the foreign exchange market Friday, the South Korean won depreciated seven won against the U.S. dollar to finish at one-thousand-234-point-four won, marking the weakest level in five years and eight months.

South Korean shares, meanwhile, managed to advance despite falls in other regional markets.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) rose seven-point-four points, or zero-point-39 percent, to close at one-thousand-916-point-24. 

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ moved up six-point-13 points, or zero-point-96 percent, to 644-point-56.
