Prosecutors Launch Investigations Against Audi Volkswagen Korea

Prosecutors on Friday launched full-scale investigations against Audi Volkswagen Korea.

Prosecutors are probing in particular allegations that the German firm failed to draw up a proper recall plan in response to its emissions-rigging scandal and that it manufactured cars that do not meet emissions standards.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office began raiding the main office of Audi Volkswagen Korea and the Volkswagen Financial Services Korea office in Seoul from Friday morning.

Investigators also raided the home of an Audi Volkswagen Korea official who handled product certification duties.

After completing analysis of the confiscated materials, related figures will be summoned for questioning.

The raids come after the Ministry of Environment filed two complaints with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office last month against Audi Volkswagen Korea and its chief, Johannes Thammer.

One complaint centered on raising issue with the company’s recall plan in response to the German carmaker’s emissions-cheating scandal. The other complaint involved suspicions that necessary certifications were not obtained regarding the manufactured cars that do not meet emissions standards.
