Chinese Tourists Shop for Luxury Goods at S. Korean Department Stores

Chinese tourists who visited South Korea during the weeklong Spring Festival from February seventh to 13th purchased mostly luxury goods at department stores.
 
South Korea’s three major department stores witnessed sales to Chinese tourists jump over 50 percent from a year ago, while large retailers saw their sales double during the period.
 
Lotte Department Store said its revenue from Chinese tourists jumped 53 percent during the Spring Festival, while Hyundai and Shinsegae department stores said they posted 51 percent and 60 percent sales growth, respectively.
 
Meanwhile, the most purchased items by Chinese travelers included herbal shampoo, ramen, Korean chocolate and almonds sold at South Korean discount stores.
