The South Korean stock market managed to climb on Monday, despite plunges in other major Asian markets.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) added 26-point-92 points, or one-point-47 percent, to finish at one-thousand-862-point-20.

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ recovered somewhat from Friday's flop—its worst in more than eight years. The secondary index gained 12-point-92 points, or two-point-12 percent, to 621-point-37.

On the foreign exchange market, the local currency appreciated three-point-six won against the U.S. dollar to close at one-thousand-208-point-one won.
