Moody's: Gaeseong Shutdown to Negatively Affect S. Korea's Sovereign Rating

Global ratings agency Moody’s has warned that the closure of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex will negatively impact South Korea’s sovereign credit rating.

In a statement released Monday, Moody’s said the shutdown of "this last remaining symbol of inter-Korean reconciliation is credit negative for the South, as it heightens geopolitical risk."

It said, however, that production at the inter-Korean complex accounted only for zero-point-zero-four percent of South Korea’s gross domestic product(GDP), and will not significantly affect the country's economy.
