LG Display has regained its position as the top seller of ultra-high definition(UHD) television panels in the world.
According to market research firm, IHS, the global market size of liquid crystal display(LCD) panels for UHD TVs amounted to roughly eleven-point-26 million in the fourth quarter of last year. That’s down two-point-four percent from the previous quarter.
LG Display rolled out three-point-98 million LCD panels for UHD TVs in the fourth quarter, up ten-and-a-half percent from the previous quarter. With the figure, LG Display ranked number one in the world with a market share of 35 percent.
Samsung Display, which ranked first in the LCD panel market between the first and third quarters of last year, shipped out two-point-79 million panels last quarter. It ranked second with a market share of 25 percent.
The combined market share of LG and Samsung, meanwhile, stands at 60 percent, meaning that six out of ten UHD TVs around the world use South Korean panels.
