Quake of 3.1 Magnitude Rattles Geumsan in S. Chungcheong

A three-point-one-magnitude earthquake struck Geumsan County in South Chungcheong Province at 5:57 a.m. Thursday.

The quake’s epicenter is assessed to be located 12 kilometers north of the Geumsan County office. Tremors were reportedly felt in Daejeon as well as other parts of South Chungcheong and Jeolla Provinces.

The Korea Meteorological Administration, fire stations and broadcasters received phone calls about reports of loud banging sounds and tremors lasting for seconds.

The weather agency said, however, that the latest quake is unlikely to have caused major damage when considering its size.
