South Korean officials and citizens are beginning to clear out of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex from Thursday.
The ministry will create a task force to ensure the safe move of South Koreans and their belongings from Gaeseong located in the North.
The chief of the Office for Government Policy Coordination will be responsible for insurance and reparation payments to those who have invested or run firms inside the park.
One-hundred-84 South Koreans are inside the complex. South Korean officials have barred anyone other than officials responsible for conducting evacuation operations from entering the complex.
The move comes after Seoul’s Unification Minister Hong Yong-pyo on Wednesday announced plans to shut down the industrial complex as North Korea’s nuclear weapons programs threatened the safety of South Koreans in the complex.
Seoul officials are also mulling cutting off water and electricity to the factory zone while future decisions will be made after consultations with Pyongyang.
