Airliners to Exempt Cancellation Fees for Tickets to Zika-Affected Regions

Customers will be exempt from cancellation fees for plane tickets bound for countries suffering from the spread of the Zika virus.

The Transport Ministry said fees for canceling or changing flight tickets to Latin America or Thailand with South Korean airliners would be waived for pregnant women and their families.

Those eligible for the fee waiver must have purchased their tickets before February first for flights taking off before April 30th.

South Korean low-cost carrier Jin Air applied the measure to include routes to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia; Vientiane, Laos; and Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand. T’way Air also included routes to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Zika is thought to be connected to microcephaly, which causes abnormally small heads among infants.
