Finance Minister Yoo Il-ho said Thursday that he currently has no plans to draw up a supplementary budget.
Yoo made the remark to reporters after inspecting a plant of biopharmaceutical company, Celltrion, in Incheon.
The minister said that a supplementary budget is drawn up under inevitable circumstances, adding that it ultimately becomes a burden for the people. He said the current situation did not prompt such a move.
He also reiterated that the government has no plans to lower oil taxes.
On the subject of the volatile foreign exchange market, Yoo said foreign exchange rates are not a matter for authorities to meddle in, adding that the rate is decided at the market based on principle.
On the contentious state-initiated childcare program for children aged three through five, Yoo called on education superintendents to cooperate in earmarking their childcare budget, adding that the government is considering conducting checks by the Board of Audit and Inspection.
Earlier in a meeting with bio-health industry officials, Yoo said the government will boost policy implementation efforts in order for South Korea to join the ranks of countries strong in the bio-health sector.
