S. Korean Construction Industry Ranks 7th in Global Competitiveness

A local think tank says the South Korean construction industry was rated the seventh most competitive among 19 countries last year.

The Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology announced the list of country rankings Thursday in terms of their construction industry’s competitiveness in the global market.

The ratings are evaluated according to detailed assessments of the country's construction infrastructure and construction companies’ potential.

South Korea’s ranking rose by one notch in the category of construction infrastructure. However, it remained at the bottom for policy transparency and corruption perception.

In design competitiveness, the nation ranked eleventh, up from 16th the previous year. Its ranking for price competitiveness remained unchanged at fifth.

The first global construction competitiveness rankings were conducted in 2011.
