S. Korea Joins Japan in Commercializing Maglev Train

South Korea has become the second country in the world to succeed in commercializing a magnetic levitation train.

Hyundai Rotem, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor, held an event at Incheon International Airport Wednesday, celebrating the beginning of its maglev train operation.

The event was also attended by officials of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Incheon Metropolitan Government.

Developed in 2006 with Hyundai’s own technologies, the train will be operated between the Incheon airport's traffic center and Yongyu Station on the Airport Railroad Express(AREX).

It is the second time the world saw the successful commercialization of a maglev train after Japan began such operations in 2005.
