N. Korea Scores Least in Economic Freedom Survey for 22nd Straight Year

A global survey measuring countries’ economic freedom has placed North Korea at the bottom for the 22nd straight year.

Voice of America(VOA) Tuesday cited the 2016 Index of Economic Freedom produced by the Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal.

With a Freedom Score of only two-point-three points out of 100, North Korea ranked the lowest and regarded as the most repressed economy among the 178 countries surveyed.

It marks the 22nd consecutive year the country placed last in the annual survey since it was first released in 1995.

The index measures economic freedom with four broad categories: the rule of law, limited government, regulatory efficiency and open markets.

South Korea ranked 27th in the survey, improving from 29th a year earlier.
