Current Account Surplus Surpasses $100 Billion

South Korea's current account surplus has been estimated to have surpassed 100 billion U.S. dollars for the first time in 2015.

In preliminary data released on Monday, the Bank of Korea(BOK) said that South Korea's current account surplus stood at seven-point-46 billion dollars in the month of December.

Marking the 46th consecutive month of surplus, the December figure is a rise of seven-point-three percent from the same period last year.

With the monthly figure, the country's current account surplus for all of 2015 widened to 105-point-96 billion dollars. The yearly figure is a rise of around 25-point-six percent from the previous year when the nation saw a surplus of around 84-point-37 billion dollars.

The central bank attributed the rise in the recession to a fall in international crude prices last year.
