January BSI Falls to 7-Year Low

A survey has shown South Korean corporations are increasingly pessimistic regarding their business outlooks for the coming weeks.

The Bank of Korea(BOK) reported that the Business Survey Index(BSI) of manufacturing companies fell to 65 for January, two points lower than a month ago, dropping for the third consecutive month.

The index is the lowest since March 2009, immediately after the global financial crisis.

The BSI for February also fell two points to 66. The BOK said dampened growth in China and uncertainty over oil prices had undermined confidence among South Korean firms relying on exports for most of their income.
