Domestic scientists have found a number of genes associated with lupus, a chronic, autoimmune disease that can damage any part of body.

A research team at Hanyang University Medical Center said on Tuesday that it found ten genetic mutations associated with the disease during its study of 17-thousand lupus patients.

The researchers said they also found 56 medications that control the stimulation of the genes.

They said that existing medications for other diseases could be used to treat lupus, as the 56 medicines include Gleevec, a popular anti-leukemia medicine.

The findings appeared on the latest edition of Nature Genetics.
