North Korea has unveiled that it will expand cooperative ties with friendly nations in the face of the international community’s moves to apply sanctions on Pyongyang following its latest nuclear test.
The official newspaper of North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, the Rodong Sinmun, claimed on Monday that political pressure or economic sanctions from what it called "imperialistic forces" will be ineffective if countries that strive for independence and peace fight together.
The daily added that the North is adhering to its position of advancing amicable and cooperative ties with all countries that respect the nation's autonomy and treats it in a friendly manner.
The report, however, stopped short of elaborating which countries the North regards as being friendly.
Meanwhile, Ri Chang-min, a researcher at the North’s State Academy of Sciences, claimed in an article contributed to a North Korean propaganda Web site that the international community’s sanctions on the North will have no effect.
