Gov't Vows to Clamp Down on KCTU Strike

The government has called the general strike planned from Monday by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions(KCTU) “illegal.”

At an emergency news conference on Sunday afternoon, Justice Minister Kim Hyun-woong vowed to clamp down on the strike.

The government accused the umbrella labor union of leading a unilateral strike without respect to due procedure.

The general strike comes after the KCTU demanded the government retract its proposals aimed at making the labor market more flexible by lifting restrictions against allowing firms to lay off workers they deem are underperforming.
