Foreign Stock Ownership Hits 6.5-Year Low

Foreign ownership of South Korean stocks reached a six-and-a-half year low.

According to data from the Korea Exchange, foreign investors accounted for 31-point-02 percent of the total market capitalization on the main bourse as of Friday.

The percentage was the lowest level since August 20, 2009, when the figure reached 30-point-92 percent.

Foreigners sold off more than six-point-two trillion worth Korean stocks from the main bourse alone between December 2 and January 22.

Analysts view that that the recent capital outflow is mainly attributed to oil producing countries hit by low oil prices.
