Power Demand Posts All-Time High

Written: 2016-01-19 18:32:59Updated: 2016-01-19 19:35:01

Demand for electricity has reached an all-time high amid the continuing cold wave.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Energy said that power demand registered 82-point-12 million kilowatts at 11 a.m. Tuesday, breaking the previous record of 80-point-15 million kilowatts set on December 17, 2014.

The surge in demand is attributed to increased use of heating devices as temperatures have dropped below minus ten degrees Celsius, or 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

The ministry, however, predicted a stable supply of energy as total supply stands at 95 million kilowatts and power reserves remaining above 13 million kilowatts.
