Survey: 84% of Soon-to-Be Retirees Unable to Make Monthly Minimum Cost of Living

A new survey finds that eight in ten people who are set to retire will unlikely have one-point-96 million won, or the monthly minimum cost of living for a couple.

In survey carried out by the Korea Insurance Development Institute on some 12-hundred people preparing for retirement, seven-point-nine percent of the respondents said they expect to be able to maintain two-point-69 million won per month, which is regarded to be a reasonable living expense for a couple.

A little over eight percent said they expect to have the minimum monthly living expenses of one-point-96 million won, while the remaining 84 percent said they expected to have less than the minimum living expenses to spare each month.

Reasonable and minimum living expenses were calculated based on the responses of those surveyed.
