6.7-Magnitude Quake Hits Water off Japan's Hokkaido Island

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of six-point-seven occurred in waters off Urakawa District in the Japanese island of Hokkaido at 12:29 p.m. Thursday.
 
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake’s seismic center was located at 42 degrees North latitude and 142-point-eight degrees East longitude with a depth of roughly 50 kilometers.
 
The agency said that minor sea level fluctuations could be detected in coastal regions. However, the agency said there is no concern of the latest quake causing damage, adding that a tsunami warning was not issued.
