Local Currency at Weakest Level in 5.5 Years

The South Korean won marked its weakest level in five-and-a-half years on Tuesday.

On the Seoul foreign exchange market, the value of the local currency weakened zero-point-five won against the U.S. dollar, ending at one-thousand-210-point-three won. 

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) lost three-point-98 points, or zero-point-21 percent, as foreign investors offloaded more than 240 billion won. The main index closed at one-thousand-890-point-86 points. 

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also fell three-point-66 points, or zero-point-54 percent, to 671-point-30.
